QPR midfielder puts pen to paper on three-year deal

Queens Park Rangers have confirmed on their official club website that young midfielder Ilias Chair has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at the club, keeping him at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium until 2023.

The 21-year-old has made six Championship appearances so far this season, starting in the R’s wins over Wigan Athletic and Sheffield Wednesday prior to the international break and against Luton Town last weekend. Chair has also started in both of Queens Park Rangers’ EFL Cup matches against Bristol City and Portsmouth.

Chair has provided two assists so far this season and now, he has been rewarded with a new deal the club. Speaking upon the confirmation of his new deal, Chair said:

“I am very pleased and very happy. I feel this is the start. In life when you do something and you get rewarded, you move onto the next thing, the next target.

“Now that I have signed this contract I am focused on the next one.”

Chair went on to add that the play style manager Mark Warburton has implemented at Queens Park Rangers, adding that the faith Warburton also played a part.

“This was all key for me. The way that we play, the way that the club works, it was all so important.”

Club director of football Les Ferdinand has also been speaking upon the announcement of Chair’s new deal, saying that his loan spell with Stevenage last season played a big role in his development.

“Ilias has done very well for us and it is really pleasing to agree a new contract with him. He did very well at Stevenage. He gained game-time and confidence and that’s the whole point of using the loan system like we do.

“But as well as being a good footballer he is a good character as well. He knows what he wants out of life and he knows what he wants out of football.”
