Stoke City have former Birmingham City manager as a replacement lined up, should they part company with Nathan Jones

Stoke City already have a replacement lined up should they part company with current manager Nathan Jones according to The Mirror.

The Potters have already eyed up former Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton as a replacement should they sack manager Nathan Jones.

Stoke have endured an horrific start to their second season in the Championship, currently without a win and sitting bottom of the second tier with just one point picked up from a possible 24.

Former Luton Town coach Jones has won just three of his 29 games in charge and the pressure is increasing with each winless game with Stoke at genuine risk of suffering relegation to League One leaving the club in tatters.

Hughton was sacked as manager of Brighton and Hove Albion at the end of last season despite him steering them clear of the relegation zone and Stoke could be about to offer him a path back into management.

Despite Stoke’s current predicament it could be a job which would appeal to Hughton with the Midlands side having been a Premier League team just two seasons ago and with some very good players including the likes of Joe Allen at their disposal.

Hughton has much more experience than Jones and has a superb record in the Championship. He led Newcastle to the title back in 2010, took Birmingham City to the play-offs and even guided Brighton into the Premier League for the first time in their history.

The 60-year-old is used to guiding teams towards the play-offs and working at the opposite end of the table but there is no doubt that Hughton would bring much needed experience and knowledge of the game should Stoke part company with Jones.
