Derby County tipped for first-team involvement by coach after starring for Under-23s

Derby County Under-23s coach Pat Lyons has singled out young midfielder Louis Sibley for an “outstanding” performance for the club’s second-string side against Liverpool.

Derby County midfielder Louis Sibley is highly rated at Pride Park and his impressive performances for the club’s youth sides have seen him make his first-team debut in the early stages of the season under Philip Cocu.

Now, speaking to the club’s official website after the Under-23s side’s 3-3 draw against Liverpool, Derby County Under-23s coach Pat Lyons has tipped Sibley for more first-team action after a quality performance against Liverpool’s youngsters. Lyons said:

I thought Louie Sibley was outstanding today. I thought the way he made things happen, drove with the ball, went past players with ease and with high quality, and the only thing missing from his game was a goal.

“He had a few chances which he should have scored but if he keeps doing what he’s doing then the goals will come. I’m sure he will continue to do well and be a part of the first team.”

Sibley – an 18-year-old centre midfielder – has made two appearances for the club’s senior team this season, coming off the bench for his debut against Scunthorpe United in the EFL Cup before starting in a 3-0 loss to rivals Nottingham Forest in the same competition.

Fellow youngsters Jason Knight and Lee Buchanan have been in and around the first-team picture in the early stages of this season, so Sibley will be hoping he too gets more chances to prove himself to Philip Cocu.
