Gary Lineker shares verdict on James Maddison after England display

England rescued a draw against Belgium on Tuesday night and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison made it possible with a superb piece of play.

We know that most fans just can’t wait for the Premier League to be back, and we are so nearly there.

The international break is coming to an end and England signed off with a draw against Belgium after losing 1-0 to Brazil.

The clash with Belgium was a tight affair with Youri Tielemans opening the scoring before Ivan Toney’s penalty levelled it up.

Tielemans scored again and Belgium seemed to be on the brink of victory before the final seconds of the game.

Jude Bellingham continued his rise as England’s hero with a calm finish to secure a 2-2 draw, ensuring that England didn’t lose both games in this international break.

Bellingham’s was about as cool as it comes with the game on the line, but it wouldn’t have been possible without a superb James Maddison assist.

Gary Lineker praises James Maddison

Maddison came off the bench for the final 20 minutes and was able to make a big impact.

With the ball bouncing around the penalty area, Maddison was the calmest man in the building as he flicked a pass towards Bellingham.

The creativity and guile of Maddison was on full show as he dissected the Belgium defence with one swish of his right foot.

Bellingham did the rest with a superb finish but Maddison deserves huge praise for his assist.

Gary Lineker has stepped forward with that praise.

Lineker – a man with Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur ties himself – has always been a big fan of Maddison.

Lineker has now taken to social media to hail Maddison’s assist as ‘brilliant’, with Bellingham’s finish dubbed ‘excellent’ by the Match of the Day pundit.

Maddison has been attempting to find his best form again after injury somewhat stunted his season.

There is no doubting the magic in Maddison’s boots though and Tottenham will hope that this moment of brilliance will provide some momentum for him again.

Tottenham resume their push for Champions League action against Luton Town this weekend.

This kind of creativity from Maddison would be welcomed after again demonstrating why he is so highly regard.
